Colors and Forms Under the Flame II: Advanced Enamel Techniques Workshop

Advanced enamel techniques: inlay, blanking, printing, welding silver frames and welding accessories.

Continuing from the "Colors and Forms Under the Flame" introductory enamel course, this course will guide students into the advanced world of enamel. Through 24 hours of professional learning, you will master four major techniques: enamel saturation, openwork enamel, welding fittings, and printed enamel. The course content not only covers the multi-layered expression of color but also incorporates metalworking techniques such as silver frame welding, openwork body, and alloy welding. Suitable for students interested in mastering color, upon completion of the course, you will be able to complete several personalized pieces and build your own advanced enamel portfolio.

Lesson 1: Empty Window Enamel I

Course introduction and advanced technique explanation. The course introduces the unique craftsmanship and visual effects of openwork enamel, and demonstrates the design and key points of creating an openwork base. Students will practice metal openwork, edge trimming, and creating a base suitable for firing transparent enamel.

Lesson 3: Filling with Enamel I

Learn about the characteristics and applications of enamel filling. Demonstrate the making of a fused silver frame and frame design considerations. Students will practice frame making and surface texture treatment, laying the foundation for the subsequent coloring stage.

Lesson 5: Enamel Filling III

Techniques for grinding and polishing enamel after firing. Students will learn how to use different grinding tools and polishing steps to achieve a fine and smooth surface finish on their work.

Lesson 7: Floral Print Enamel

Learn about the concept and application examples of printed enamel. Demonstrate the appliqué pattern and firing process, and students will practice pattern transfer and firing, observe the changes in patterns and colors under high temperature, and explore ways to combine it with other techniques.

Lesson 9: Presentation and Summary of Results

The course includes a showcase and critique of student work, reviewing key techniques. Students can share their creation process and insights, while the instructor provides suggestions for advanced learning and future creative directions, serving as a course summary.

Lesson 2: Empty Window Enamel II

The course focuses on the application of transparent enamel and multi-layer firing techniques. Students will apply transparent enamel to an openwork base, learn to control the thickness and color layers, and perform grinding and polishing to complete a translucent enamel piece with a window effect.

Lesson 4: Enamel Filling II

Perform the enamel filling process. Learn how to clean enamel, and learn the application methods of enamel powder, control of smudging, and techniques for using cloisonné wire. Through multiple firings and grinding processes, students will master the color gradations and texture variations of enamel.

Lesson 6: Welding Fitting Structure

This course introduces the types and properties of alloy solders, explaining their application limitations and advantages in enamel works. It demonstrates basic soldering operations, allowing students to practice soldering accessories such as pendants and earrings, enhancing their structural fabrication and assembly skills.

Lesson 8: Finishing and Finishing

We assist students in integrating the aforementioned techniques to complete their individual enamel works. We adjust and guide each student's design, and perform final touches, polishing, and detailing to complete the finished product.

The works to be created in this course

Students will complete at least 3-5 enamel works following the instructions.

Who is this course suitable for?

This course is recommended for students who have already completed " Colors Under the Flame: Copper Enamel and Silver Inlay Jewelry Workshop ," or those with an equivalent level of enamelwork skills. It is also highly recommended for those familiar with basic metalworking techniques such as sawing, welding, and polishing, and capable of independently completing small pieces. At the same time, this course is especially welcome for beginners who are passionate about metal jewelry and eager to express their personal style in enamel creation, to explore more challenging enamel techniques together.
